About NZ Translations โ
Who We Are & Why We Built This.
NZ Translations is a certified translation service built in Auckland, New Zealand. We started in 2013 because we saw what happened when the wrong translation service was trusted with someone's most important documents โ and we decided to do it differently. This page tells you who we are, how we work, and what we stand for.
Why We Started.
What We Believe.
New Zealand is a country built by people who came from somewhere else. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people navigate the immigration system, enrol in universities, appear before courts, and register businesses โ carrying documents in languages other than English. A certified translation is often the smallest part of that process. It is also, frequently, the part that goes wrong.
We started NZ Translations in 2013 because we had seen too many situations where a substandard translation โ produced by an unqualified person, formatted incorrectly, or missing a required declaration โ turned a straightforward application into a months-long problem. People who had done everything right, delayed by a document that was wrong.
The idea behind NZ Translations was not complicated: hire translators who are actually qualified in their specific language and document type, learn exactly what each NZ authority requires, and produce translations that work first time. Twelve years later, that is still exactly what we do.
We are a small, specialist operation. We are not trying to be the largest translation company in New Zealand. We are trying to be the most reliable one โ for the people who cannot afford to find out that their translation was wrong.
Twelve Years. One Standard.
Built in New Zealand.
NZ Translations did not begin as a corporation with investors and a marketing budget. It began with a problem that needed solving and the decision to solve it properly.
Founded in Auckland to Fill a Gap
NZ Translations was established after seeing too many visa applications stall due to substandard certified translations. The founding principle was simple: produce translations that NZ government authorities actually accept, produced by translators who are actually qualified. From day one, every translator was vetted against NZSTI professional standards.
First 5,000 Documents โ The Standard Was Set
By 2015, we had completed 5,000 certified translations submitted to INZ, DIA, and NZQA. Not one had been returned by an authority with a query about the translation quality. That record was not luck โ it was the result of quality control processes that have remained in place since founding, including dual-review on every document before delivery.
Reached 100+ Languages and Express Service
As Auckland's immigrant communities grew more diverse, we expanded our translator network to cover 100+ language pairs. We also introduced Express 24-hour service โ recognising that visa deadlines often come with short notice. Same-day service followed shortly after, requiring translators available 7 days a week.
25,000th Document โ Apostille Services Added
Reaching 25,000 documents was a milestone that coincided with launching our apostille and legalisation service โ coordinating the full process from certified translation through to DIA apostille and embassy legalisation for clients needing NZ documents used internationally.
50,000+ Documents ยท 160+ Languages ยท The Record Holds
Over 50,000 certified translations submitted to NZ authorities. 160+ languages. 250+ credentialled translators across New Zealand and internationally. 2,400+ five-star reviews. And the same zero-rejection record we have maintained since the first document in 2013. The standard has not changed. It will not change.
Six Principles That Have Guided
Every Translation Since 2013.
These are not mission statement phrases. They are the specific commitments that produce a zero-rejection record across 50,000 documents.
Accuracy Without Exception
Every translation is reviewed by a second qualified linguist before delivery. No translation leaves our system without passing a quality check. We do not rush this step, regardless of how tight the deadline is. If a translation is not accurate, it does not go out.
Credential Integrity
Every translator on our network holds credentials meeting NZSTI professional standards. We credential-check before assigning any document. We do not use freelancers who self-certify their own competence, and we do not cut costs by assigning documents to unspecialised linguists.
Urgency Is Understood
A visa deadline is real. A court date is fixed. A citizenship appointment was booked months in advance. We treat urgency with the seriousness it deserves โ express and urgent services are available 7 days a week because government deadlines do not observe weekends.
Confidentiality as a Default
A birth certificate, police certificate, or medical record contains some of the most sensitive personal information a person holds. We operate under strict NZSTI confidentiality protocols as standard โ not as a premium add-on. Documents are deleted after delivery. NDAs are available on request.
Transparency at Every Step
Fixed price before we start. Confirmed delivery date before we start. No surprises on delivery. If something changes โ if a document is more complex than it appeared, or if a deadline cannot be met โ we tell you immediately and discuss options. We do not discover problems after the fact.
Cultural Fluency, Not Just Language Fluency
Translating a Korean family relationship certificate requires understanding Korean civil registry conventions. Translating a Samoan church-issued birth record requires knowing how NZ authorities treat Pacific Island documentation. Language fluency without cultural knowledge produces technically correct but practically wrong translations.
250+ Credentialled Specialists.
Native Speakers. Subject-Matter Experts.
We do not use a pool of generalists who translate anything in any field. Every document type is assigned to a translator who specialises in that document type, in that language pair, from that country's civil registry or legal system. Here is a cross-section of our team.
These are eight members of a 250+ person network. Every language pair you need has a specialist assigned โ not a generalist who happens to speak the language.
Trust Is Not Claimed.
It Is Earned by What Happens at INZ.
Most translation services are opaque about their process. Here is exactly what happens from the moment you send us a document to the moment you receive your certified translation.
Step 1: We Review Your Document Before Starting
When your document arrives, a senior coordinator reviews it before it goes to a translator โ confirming the language pair, the document type, and which authority it is destined for. If something is unclear or missing, we contact you before starting, not after delivering something incomplete.
Step 2: The Right Translator Is Assigned
Your document goes to a translator who specialises in that specific document type from that specific country โ not a general linguist who happens to speak the language. A Nepali birth certificate goes to someone who has translated hundreds of Nepali birth certificates, who knows Bikram Sambat calendar conversion, and who has encountered every format variation that Nepali civil registry offices use.
Step 3: A Second Translator Reviews the Work
Before any translation reaches you, a second qualified linguist checks it independently โ not for style, but for accuracy. Every name, every date, every official seal description, every calendar conversion is verified. This dual-review step is the reason our delivery record is what it is. It adds time; it is not optional.
Step 4: You Receive a Print-Ready, Submission-Ready Document
Your translation arrives by email as a formatted, print-ready PDF โ with the Certificate of Accuracy attached, the translator's credentials included, and a certified copy of your original document appended. Everything the authority needs is already in the package. You print it, attach it, and submit it. That is the end of your involvement in the translation process.
What Sets a Serious Translation Service
Apart From the Rest.
Not all certified translation services in New Zealand operate to the same standard. Here is the specific difference between what we do and what cheaper, faster alternatives typically do.

"We are not in the business of translating words. We are in the business of producing documents that open doors โ for residency applications, citizenship ceremonies, court hearings, and university enrolments. Every one of those moments deserves a translation that works."
